Rave it is not only a music, it is a life style, sub-culture, in UK it is also popular synonym for "party". This expression was born in early 60s when Caraibiean imigrants in London used it in they slang. In late 80s "Rave" was sub-culture, which had its roots in Acid House stream from Chicago and New York, but soon came to the club scene in UK.
